Artist Statement

There were two times in my life when I realized that everything is a masterpiece. The first was when I read Tremendous Trifles by G.K. Chesterton. This was a series of essays on ordinary life, but each essay portrayed the ordinary in a beautiful or interesting way, and sometimes lamented that the ordinary went unappreciated by most people.

The second time was when I started learning how to make realistic CGI materials. To make a material look real takes considerable work and computing power, but the results can be amazing. Soon I realized that complex materials were everywhere in real life, but few people took time to appreciate them.

Nothing needs to be boring. When I make art, I strive to make it exciting and adventurous. Everything from a supernova to a spoon has a degree of beauty, and I try to capture it.

The same goes for humor. Humorous situations are everywhere, but since they are often happening to us, we fail to see them. If I can capture humor and make people laugh, I’m happy.

I am motivated by a desire to share what’s bizarre and beautiful, whether from my mind or reality. I often find it easier to express myself with images than words. Most of my work is playful, but I like to give things a dramatic and almost cinematic quality. My best work is in video, motion graphics, logo design, and digital illustration.
